Arsenal 1 - 0 Manchester City

Arsenal beat Manchester City 1-0 at Highbury thanks to Robert Pires' 61st minute penalty. David James bought down Henry and Pires duly obliged from the spot. With what was in truth a beautifully taken Penalty.

However, the game was overshadowed by the other penalty in the game. Robert Pires' second penalty kick, awarded after Sylvain Distin felled Dennis Bergkamp, will live long in the memory. The flamboyant Frenchman rather controversially opted to pass to Henry instead of dispatching the penalty in the usual manner. However Pires decided to roll his studs over the ball and Henry was confused as to whether he could touch it and the moment was lost. Having missed a clear cut chance from 8 yards you would think Pires would be keen to make amends, score the second penalty and secure the result. However, it was apparently Henry's idea. The wrong decision yes, but nothing more.

I don't see why we are being lambasted by the press so much. Admittedly Arsenal is the only top flight club where this could happen. Isn't it a good thing, to an extent, that the players feel free to try these things? Yeah it didn't come off, but then what's the harm? If it had gone in it would have been audacious, innovative and daring. If it had been a big game we wouldn't have tried it. It matters not. The league is gone. We all know it.

It wasn't Arsenal's most convincing performance, the weren't at their free flowing best but they took the 3 points from an ever improving side with several key players out and made up valuable ground on their Champion's League chasing rivals. So it wasn't a bad day by any means.

Is it me or does Jose Mourinho look increasingly like a drunken detective? Babbling on about a goal which 'should have stood'. If Gudjohnsen wasn't offside/interfering with play standing on the middle of the six-yard box where do you draw the line? Has he started to model himself on Columbo?..

If you ask me is Jose a good manager. I think definitely so. If you ask me is Jose talk in funny roundabout short sharp weird sentences. I think definitely so.

The drunk undercover detective, he looks like he should be sat outside a cafe bar in Amsterdam with an open newspaper to hand.

Arsenal under Arsene Wenger were always built to entertain, and it will be one of Wengers lasting legacies, along with his undoubted talent for finding young starlets. However by his own admission he missed out on Defoe, Carrick and co. at Tottenham, and you see how spurs getting on with the english backbone, i think in the Premiership it goes along way. Certainly on those cold wet windy nights away to lowly lying teams, or those passion filled matches were drive and determination can win matches alone.

For me perhaps Arsenes overcompensated in looking for flair and skill and has slighlty fallen short on the physicality drive side of the game.

And that penalty, what a penalty. He who dares. He who dares. Disrespectful ? Not sure how its conceived to be disrespectful. Had pires not bizarrely lost the ability to pass then Im pretty certain between him and the record breaking Henry they could of beaten David James, whom I wouldnt of been surprised to see rush out and give away another penalty :)

I also noted that Jose (aka CUNT) was looking a little bit tardy at the weekend. He has let that smart casual appearance slip to something more remenisent of Tony Adams after a night out on the turbo shandy. I'm sure the real explanation is that he is slightly short of cash at the moment as it has all been spent on messrs Essien, and Wright-Philips. Maybe he has finally realised that the future is a downward spiral of misery. It won't be long 'til he is smiling again as I'm sure he'll be soon be installed as Real Madrid/Barcelona/Portugeuse National Coach after Roman has been assasinated/arrested for murder, bribery and corruption in the former Soviet Union.
