What A Difference A Day Makes.. 24 Little Hours

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive. We have reportedly 'signed' Vassiriki Abou Diaby from Auxerre on a 4-year deal.

He is 19 years old, 6ft 2" tall, strong, leggy and French. I just hope being labelled as the new Vieira doesn't hurt him.

He is however exactly what we need. He will have the opportunity to adapt to the league and bed in over the World Cup.

Diaby and Cesc in 2 to 3 years could be the real deal.

It would appear players are wising up to the fact that Arsenal can offer a better chance of first team football than Chelsea. By choosing Arsenal they are effectively choosing football over money, that is the type of attitude we need at Arsenal.

Wenger is buying for 2007/8.

This has always been the plan. So when he says players are developing well it is with this in mind. He doesn't mean they are all ready to win things yet, but they will be.

Theo Walcott spent yesterday at London Colney. We've 'agreed' a deal for him. That would be a sensational signing but I am cautious.

I will believe that when it happens.

It is amazing how exciting it is to be linked to these new players though. I think because of the high expectations we realise how much we need some. Suddenly hope is restored.

We could still do with some experience, maybe that centre back who can play in midfield. I have heard Dabo's name being mentioned. But this is an excellent start and at least we know Wenger sees what we do!

I think you are being a little sceptical the Gun.

Bourgoin told L'Equipe Diaby spent Wednesday in London meeting officials from Arsenal and Chelsea, with Wenger proving the decisive factor. "The choice belonged to Diaby, but Wenger was better than (Jose) Mourinho, that's all," Bourgoin said.

Why would Chelsea want him as well if he was a s bad as you suggest?

Yeah, and another question is why would Arsenal buy him if he is that bad. Wenger is no fool!

The gun seems unhappy at signing a young player surplus to requirements at his own club. Er, Henry, Vieira, Overmars, Petit. Ring any bells?

Sanitni is just upset cause really they wanted to keep him but he didn't want to stay. Thats what they mean with the line about Auxerre not being a club to break players careers.
They've got to sell it to their fans as well, and you can't tell your fans that you've just sold one of yor brightest young stars to another club for only £2m.

well he seems to be a good signing or else i dont think we would have bought. and them maybe wenger does know dat we need additions to the squad. he has been slagged for refusing to buy on so many blogs, dat if all the speculations are rife, many fans will have eggs on their faces. lets face it, we are no chelsi, we cant match the spending power, we have the largest debt in the premiership except 4 man u, so i expect bargain buys. i wont even be surprised if henry leaves 4 barca after all. esp if we dont qualify 4 the champs league.
i would have wanted more experienced players though, but that has never been wengers policy, or dat of the board so i wont hope.

Lets not also forget that Santini is a shite manager, so who's judgement are you gonna value more Wenger or Santini ??

Let's give this Diaby kid a chance before we write him off. Everyone's going to put their own spin on it. The French journalist Arsenal.com interviewed claimed Diaby was technically better than Vieira. Somehow I doubt it, but let's wait and see for ourselves. At the least, he's a big physical presence who might light a fire under Gilberto.

We've been linked with Adebayor for a long time. Can't say I was very excited by the rumors in the past, but again, he gives us a physical presence, an option for play B, and hopefully indicates Wenger will keep 442 as plan A.

I certainly hope that Diaby doesn't have to cope with the label "the new Vieira"just because he is black and 6 feet 2"...wow there's a coincidence, as that is enough to ruin anybody's career with the burden of expectation.Does anybody know how much we actually paid for Adebayor as the reported £7 million seems very high for a player with an average scoring record.
Iam praying that Theo Walcott chooses Arsenal as it will
1. show our ambition(and our multi talented Captain) to compete for the recognised talent that is out there and will boost the slightly downbeat atmosphere which surrounds the club.
2 It will mean he has chosen to play football rather than go and sit on a bench for more dough than we can offer him (SWP)and will assure people in the game that the classless twats at Chelsea can't just buy whoever they want.
Apparently Chelsea are prepared to pay more than anyone offers for him according to The BBC website yesterday so by that reckoning they don't know how much aplayer is worth just that they can pay more than anybody else and then you get that prick Kenyon saying that whenever they enter a bid for a player the price gets forced up because everybody knows Chelsea can afford it ...well you hypocritical retard you created this obscene situation by doing exactly what you are doing now....
Drogba £23.5 million my arse.

That is spot on.. I am delighted to hear a bit of sense from a reader. As I said in the original post it can only be good for football if players reject Chelsea in order to play football.

This morning’s reports tell us we have been unsuccessful with our bid for Willcott.
Does this mean he's going to Chelsea, or are the saints playing a dangers game here with what he has supposed to have said with regards to him preferring the Ars over Chelsea.
Because he only has months to run on his current contract from what I’m lead to believe then the fee goes to tribunal, & I can’t see 12mil materialising from a tribunal for a 17 year old?

All we can hope for is that Walcott sticks with his preference for us. From the articles I've read, his family is fairly well off, and he's well grounded, so the cash Chelsea will flash in his face may not be that important to him. If Sp*rs or Pool enter a higher bid, though, we may well lose him. I still have hope, but I don't think the board should enter a bidding war. Even 12mil is a bit crazy.
