The Crown Princes of Highbury Royally Outclass Reading

'So Arturo, when are you going to start banging in the goals for the first team?' to which the diminutive Italian replied 'As soon as the boss let's me!'.

He didn't lie..

2 mins into his first appearance for the senior side this season and Lupoli had robbed Ibrahima Sonko and scored a typical poachers goal to make it 3-0 to Arsenal.

Arsenal's youngsters, all starting outfield players under 23 on the night, proved that Arsenal's optimism for the future is well founded with a swashbuckling display against Reading in the Carling Cup last night.

Jose Antonio Reyes (13), Robin Van Persie (41), his 8th goal in 8 games and Arturo Lupoli (65) scored in an entertaining game, which Reading were very much a part of..

It was not as one sided as the score line suggests. Reading played well and created a few chances, but like Blackburn at the weekend they lacked a little composure in the final third and Arsenal's class shone through.

Almunia put in a confidence boosting display.

Quincy Owusu Abeyie also showed great potential and Wenger's lack of transfer activity and complete confidence in his young players was vindicated.

It is a big step up to the first team and Arsenal will need to strengthen in the transfer window, this result doesn't change a great deal in terms of the present.. It might give Arsene a few options..

What this result does do is, along with the result at Sunderland, is help to develop these talents by offering invaluable first team experience, breeding confidence and justify the way in which we nurture and select our young players, which is the life blood of the club and the most important ingredient for maintained success..

Not all of the young players will be able to sustain their development and make it into the first team, however, those that do, will have been nurtured in the best way possible and have Arsenal in their blood, no matter where they come from, and that is the most important thing..

We are breeding winners at Arsenal and instilling in them the core values of the club..

Games such as last night are by far the best parameter to measure the progress of these players and they appear to be measuring up very well indeed..

Read 'The Futures Bright The Futures Arsenal' article.. Who else can boast such an array of exciting young players? Who else could play a youth team in this competition and get to the Quarter Final..

No-one..

Great Blogg Joe:
This should give us something to debate for a bit.

I did not manage to see the game last night only the goals from on SKY so I can't comment on the performance.
However as I have mentioned before I do often get to see the reserve games @ Underhill. & have given my opinions of them in the passed (usually upbeat).

Just to kick this off a bit my view of this current reserve team is when @ full complement outstanding, but we loan too many out even if for good reason sometimes.
However when will Arsen start to use this talent more because if he don't I’m sure we will loss them in the near & long-term future if he is not careful.
With other clubs watching our progress. The same rules that will apply to the first team I.E. unsettling them with under the counter offers.

I think it is essential to loan players out, as good as reserve team games games are, they do not have the same amount of pressure as a proper 1st division or 2nd division game. But I agree that you cannot lose to many players on loan as it will be at a detriment to the reserve team. Maybe shorter loan spells is an idea. But i totally agree that Wenger has got to give some of the kids a chance, people such as Cygan aren't going to improve so why not let a kid play, and yes they will make a few mistakes but at least they will learn as well..

The Gun, I agree with you, to haul in 36,000 for a Carling Cup game is excellent. I am 100% behind the ticket reductions. RedAction finally appear to be bringing a bit more atmosphere to games and so good luck to them, that's exactly what is needed. Hopefully they will have the same effect at Ashburton Grove..
Muamba does look impressive I agree, I think the only reason Wenger bought in Song was due to his versatility, the fact he does have competitive experience, and the fact that he hadn't seen the guy train and so wanted a closer look at him..
To be honest I don't think he will sign him permanently..

i know nothing of the kids except lupoli seems to score for fun !

song seemed ordinary when i saw him v thun, and didnt see any of the game last nite except the goals and a nother sweet strike from RVP.

als oa rather controversial theory but perhaps reyes prefers playing with rvp as henry can seem rather an isolated figure when playing alognside with. he likes his glory.

anyway jsut some musings, classic stuff boni keep up the posting otherwise i have no proper gooner material to read

take it easy

Controversial I think! Henry does like to try somethings alone and I agree that he is not the type of player who will create 'partnerships' as such.. But find the right kind of player aka Bergy and you can bring the best out of both players.. I like the fact RVP also does things on his own and has enough confidence to just go & score.. I get the impression if Reyes was given on open goal at the moment with Henry in the vicinity he would pass to Henry to try & please him.. Reyes is not a bad player at all, I just think his decision making at the oment isn't great, but it'll come.. We all know the has the potential..

It all seems to be going well @ the moment both for the reserves & first team, so other then a left back to cover the loss of Cole in the summer, I for one cannot see AW spending any money @ all.
Unless Henry has posted his Xmas list under Wenger’s door then of course that changes things somewhat.
Because Wenger will do anything to keep him quite rightly, but we could be spending the wrong reasons?

I don't think he has any choice - he has to spend unless he really think Muamba, Cregg, Larsson, or Song are ready to step into the first team. I don't take Song's appearance in the CL as a sign of this, but rather a continuing trial to see if he's worth keeping permanently. I think he'll at least make an attmept to find a long-term replacement at GK. And a 4th choice centerback - Cygan surely is not going to have his contract extended past this summer, so why not play Eboue or one of the other youngsters as Lee said? I think we're ok on the wings with Quincy, Smith, Stokes, Reyes, Freddie, Hleb, even if Pires leaves. Fullbacks as well unless Cole leaves. Striker I'm not so sure with Reyes as 3d choice, are Lupoli and Bendtner ready for some Premiership matches next season? Aliadiere's stock has dropped off the charts.

As I have said before used sparingly I would say Lupoli & Bendtner will go all the way.

+ As a holding midfielder I would play Cregg or Toure in midfield dominated games @ the moment giving the others more time to mature.
This would give Fabregas a more freed-up roll.

As for Cygan: I can see Wenger giving him a life contract!!!

Lee.
