Director's Fear Ashburton Library

I read in the program for yesterday's game that the Director's at Arsenal were considering a new style of announcing to get the crowd more involved at Ashburton Grove. This is surely in a bid to liven up the crowd and generate a better atmosphere at the new stadium.

Basically it's an effort to get more vocal support behind the team and create an intimidating atmosphere, something which is sorely lacking at Highbury.

It is rumoured that the new method will be one, which is already in force in the Bundesliga, whereby the announcer shouts out the first name of the player who has scored and the crowd shout the second.

With any luck, with the newer capacity it'll mean lower ticket prices and so more members of the general public attending to outweigh many of the silent season ticket holders at Highbury, and that will give us a fresh start to create an atmosphere and really get behind the team.

Don't get me wrong, I love Highbury, the closeness of the stands, the fact it is our home, my first ground, and the fact it is steeped in Arsenal history, but the one thing I would change, is that sometimes it lacks atmosphere. I just hope that Asburton Grove will be different..

Time will tell..

AG will be a great stadium. All supportert who want a vocal atmosphere should join the RedACtion if they have the opportunity. Hopefully the club will allocate the singing fans around the ground, so you can sing songs with your fellow supporters!!

the RedAction "singing sections" seems like a good idea - at least if there's a fairly decent bit of vocal support from one section others will usually join in

From various posts on MBs and the Gooner, sounds like the club's first priority on seat allocation is making the most money. I like the German custom, but I hope they don't take up things I've seen at American sporting events, such as scoreboards that flash "Let's make some noise" or "Stomp your feet" or blaring music like from the annoying Craven Cottage tannoy. Or cheerleaders. Well, I suppose I wouldn't mind some Page 3 cheerleaders. If they're desperate, they could always plant some hired singers.;)
