Arsenal Add To Potential With Walcott Signing Confirmed

Theo Walcott has joined Arsenal from Southampton in an initIal £5m deal, possibly rising to £12m. It's official. He will wear the no.32 shirt.

The world's worst secret is finally out. It's always promising to hear that a player wants to sign for Arsenal over any other club and even better to know that he stuck to his decision.

I wonder how SWP is feeling right now?

I must admit I am excited. The boy looks class and hopefully he will push some of the more experienced players to raise their games.

MORE TO THE POINT HE IS A GENUINELY QUALITY ENGLISHMAN!

Walcott is a kid, a 16-year old, but then again so was Wayne Rooney when it became clear he was a bit special. Utd bought him for £28m. He is now their best player.

Walcott is different, he is electric a real livewire. He shows composure in front of goal and seemingly has a good approach, loves the game and is a sensible lad. However, he isn't the finished article.

However, I wouldn't expect to see too much of the world's most expensive 16 year old this season.

He has been over used at Southampton and needs more time to develop and rest.

He is a player for the future, and the way the squad is looking now.. What a future that could be..

I gotta say, Southampton have got to be praise as well as the young lad. For them not to be tempted by Chelsea really shows us that what we all love about the game (pre russian maffia) is still alive

Today's tranfer registration of Theo Walcott is a tremendous victory for sport over money. A true example of a boy with intelligent men around him. They have allowed him to follow his dreams but not let him join 'the blue' where his career would more likely be stiffled not inspired. Ask Shaun Wright-Phillips, Scott Parker etc if you would like to know the upshot of 'blue greed' Cheers, Richard Godden

That'd be class if could get a run out against Wigan on Tuesday night.. It's weird because everyone was so downbeat and to be honest I was worried about where Arsene was going with the team. The BANG, three new players and I am as excited as a school boy watching a porn film.

A victory of sport over money?
Who are you kidding!
Victory of sport over money would have meant that Walcott stayed at Saints!

i think he meant the whole 'whatever you offer, we'll offer more mentality'. players get bought and sold all the time, but that mentality has only been aroung since the roubles arrived.

I would like to tell my fellow gooner who gives credit to Soton is that they wanted the Chelski money but for Walcott's insisting on joining his idol Titi!!

Comment @1.56: Im not so sure S'ton had a lot of say in it. From what I understand, it was a case of agree a deal with Arsenal, or lose him for nothing when he turns 17.

But, Ive got to say, Im well chuffed by this. One over the russian chavs, of course; but mainly because the 3 signings to give the promise of more options.

I can now see a 4-3-2-1 Plan B; with Gilberto, Diaby/Flamini & Fabregas in the middle, Henry & Walcott wide AM with Adebayor/VP in the middle. Bring it on..

Let's not forget Carlos Vela! Fabregas, Van Persie, Walcott and Vela can be world class players.. All playing in a brand new 60,000 stadium. Enough money to add some experience and help us maintain our standards! It looks pretty damn good for us!

I'm a lot happier now than I was this time last month.
+ I tend to agree with 2.45 the saints look like they had no choice but let’s hope this type of attitude prevails in the next few years with the young English talent.
Otherwise I can see a lot of very good youngsters festering on Chelski's books in the coming years.
But lets face it a possible 12mil for a 16 year old is still very good business for the saints.

Joe - Hope we can add Smith, Stokes, Lupoli, and Bendtner to your list. Walcott's been given 10 days off to rest and settle in London, so the first we'd see of him is likely mid-Februrary.

Did anyone read that story in the Sundays this week where it was said Southampton actually did the same business with Swansea that we have with Southampton i.e. bought out his contract.
The only difference is Southampton paid £2000.00 pounds compensation for Walcott @ I think 14 I may be wrong?
So if Rupert Low wants to change the system now in place he would have lost a 620,000% mark-up on the business & we would have had to deal with Swansea instead!!!

In reply to anon 2.14 - Walcott was always going to move away from Southampton as they wanted to cash in. He moved to AFC for sporting reasons. If Chelsea had won out it would have been a business move with the wrong sporting outcome for Theo.

Has anyone else heard a rumour suggesting that we have been watching Caen defender Ronald Zubar? He is from the same sunny shores as TH14 and featured for France U21's against England last year. Gilles has been working hard hasn't he! Cheers, Richard Godden
