Arsenal take the positives, Chelsea take the Carling Cup, Pretentious Alan Green

Arsenal fielded perhaps the youngest ever team to play in a major cup final packed with as much fledgling talent as the dominant Farnham Town Under 9's back in the mid 90's.

I think I was the Phillipe Senderos of the team, had no pace and although I did well on the whole the odd mistake which would always lead to a goal!

Arsenal felt no pressure and the set the tempo of a very entertaining game. Chelsea were restricted early on as they were under far more pressure. Their experience told and they went home with the cup.

A few of points to clear up at this stage;

1. Drogba was just offside when the ball was played, however when the linesman heard or saw the ball being played, by the time he had turned to see Drogba (maybe 1/3 of a second)he would have been offside. Therefore you have to question that decision. If it was me, in a final between 2 teams who I had no bias towards, I would have given it offside as it was so tight, no-one would have complained if that was the case.

2. Alan Green is a pretentious idiot. He had made his mind up that Chelsea were going to win before the game and the fact that he was praising the officials for their performances sums it up. After replays Drogba is marginally offside, yet he maintains he was on. Adebayor is wrongly sent off and he maintains he should have been sent off. No justification given, Green is a show pony who has never played the game at the highest level. Fuck off Alan.

3. The scenes at the end of the game were not a brawl. The Man Utd 0 - 1 Arsenal game of the 1990/91 season was a proper brawl. That was like fighting with your mate after a night on the lash. Seems like a big deal at the time but should be instantly forgotten.

For a comprehensive match report see here

Overall Arsenal played the better football and their young side acquitted themselves very well against the multi million pound Chelsea side. However Chelsea had a bit of luck (which you must always have to win something)and used their experience well by scoring a good winner.

Arsenal will take all the positives in what was in truth a no lose game and Chelsea will continue under the upmost pressure to win every game or be called failures. Arsenal are slowly closing the gap and come next season it will be even closer.

No massive expenditure, just have the time available to nurture the world's best youth into a formidable unit indoctrinated in the Arsenal culture.

We still need a world class goalscorer like Drogba and Keeper like Cech as they proved the difference in the end. If we can supplement our promise with a fully fit Henry, Eto'o or Torres and a keeper of Buffon's standing then we can be unstoppable.

Congratulation to Chelsea I am not bitter towards them for winning as although this time they take home the cup, there will be a time not long from now that it will be us, and it will have been done in the right way and with a bright future ahead of us.

Aln Green came in for some ferocious stick on 606 to the extent that he had to acknowledge it. It is happening more and more - I think that he is on his way out. To say that he didn't see the incidents that the Arsenal supporters saw is a confession on how cosy and complacent these pundits have become. When you are paid to wtch football for a living is it tooo much to ask to be as well informed and insightfull as someone who has read a few blogs? He was wrong to praise the Ref and his team as they were not harsh enough on Chelsea's spoling tactics. The linesman was extremely poor on our side, not just on Drogba's goal but so slow on other decisions even in our favour that he only gave when screamed at by a defender.

However you can not justify the way this young team deflected away all the praise they had earned with an immature strop and brawl that summed up their limitations. Following the warnings following Old Trafford the FA would be able to justify throwing the book at us. If the whole team get a reputation for being easy to wind up and self explode it will always go against us - who doesn't block off Jens at corners now days?

excellent review of yesterdays game. I think most people were trying to stop ruck but ended up pushing each other. Did eboue really lamp bridge? Has anyone read ANR's Myles palmer review? He's not very Arsenal. I think he's a Sp*r in disguise.

Adebayor didn't floor Bridge but he charged into the crowd shoving & pushing... i would be surprised if his card was overturned & presumably Eboue will get a suspension as well possibly Fabregas as well - the last thing we need with all the important fixtures coming up...

the teams should've been taken off the field & they should've let Wenger & Mourinho square up to each other... think Wenger would win (he'd fight dirty - gravel in the face)

The decisions to book Denilson for a nothing foul and not carding Diarra for a cynical block (the first of two) summed up the referee's performance for me.

The offside goal is flagged 999 times out of a 1000 - interesting they were keen to stress the benefit goes to the attacker... yeah that happens all the time. Ask Henry.

The 'brawl' was lots of pushing and shoving from both sides - I expect the inept FA to crack to the media pressure and give Eboue a ban and keep Adebayor the same for his reaction having been wrongly singled out by the inept officials. These guys will NEVER understand the passion of football.

Yep a performance on the whole to be proud of....but at the end of the day I don't think any of us were surprised that we lost it...were we??
The game on the whole was pretty similar to the Champs League Final leading 1-0 but finally falling to a more experienced team 1-2 and of course with the ? over an offside decision.
We may have the most promising young side around, but unless we can stop leaking goals we will not be among the winners in the future. No matter what the philosophy of Arsene Wenger, we seriously need a great center half and Goalkeeper. AW has had very few areas that he has failed in since he came to Arsenal, but center defence is his achilles heel! Look at the cb's he has bought in Tavlaridis, Cygan, Stepanov, Senderos among a few ...all similar failures Senderos is the latest who is shown up every time by Drogba and he looks likely to make at least 1 goal leaking error every match.
We can play as much great football as you like but at the end of the day it's about who ends up winning....and we just do not have that strength!

i am basically a die hard man utd fan.But i need to congrat arsenal for this excellent performance with the young team. This young team had all the abilities to match the mighty chelsea.

Chelsea came in with full strength and struggled against the pace of arsenal youths.
